Join us for an online Shivaratri celebration with devotees from around the world. The night will include chanting, stories, dance and many other devotional offerings.
Yogananda didn’t come to bring Hinduism to America, but we can’t resist celebrating some of India’s beloved holidays. Tonight’s kirtan is in honor of Lord Shiva, symbolic of the destructive force in creation, sometimes feared but also needed to clear away the old and make room for new beginnings. Shivaratri is the night when Shiva is said to have performed the dance of primordial creation, preservation and destruction. It is also the day Shiva was married to the goddess Parvati. The ‘Great Night of Shiva’, marks the convergence of Shiva and Shakti, divine feminine energy. We will invoke Shiva’s supreme power through meditation, chanting, storytelling.
