The Life & Teachings of Lahiri Mahasaya

  • Ananda Teaching Center 2171 El Camino Real Palo Alto, CA United States (map)

3 Wednesdays in September
In-person only

Join Saiganesh for an in-depth exploration of the life and teachings of Lahiri Mahasaya through anecdotes, readings, and chanting. Drawing from many biographical sources, you will hear stories not previously told in the autobiography of a yogi.

A master of yoga and disciple of the great Mahavatar Babaji, Lahiri Mahasaya lived as an accountant and family man by day, and great guru by night. He never slept, instead spending all night instructing his disciples.

After his initiation into Kriya yoga by Babaji in 1861, Lahiri Mahasaya continued to live the modest life of a married householder in Varanasi, India. He set an ideal example of balanced living, attending to both his worldly and his spiritual duties.

Over the years, as he meditated quietly in his front room, thousands came to him for initiation into Kriya Yoga. As Yogananda describes in his Autobiography, just as the fragrance of flowers cannot be suppressed, so Lahiri Mahasaya, quietly living as an ideal householder, could not hide his innate glory.

Full series $45, Single class $15, No cost for contributing members of Ananda
