The Joy of Singing: Singing as a Spiritual Practice

  • Ananda Teaching Center 2171 El Camino Real Palo Alto, CA United States (map)

Open to everyone (don't be shy)!

Wednesdays, August 7-28, 7:30 pm, $60

"Music consists essentially of sound vibrations condensed from the music of Creation. Without music, life itself would cease to be...Of all the musical instruments, the voice is the most perfect because it most instantly and clearly expresses the feelings and consciousness behind it." —Swami Kriyananda

Have you been moved by the music at Ananda, and wanted to experience it more deeply for yourself? Perhaps you haven't had time or skills to join the choir? This class is open to all regardless of musical background. Let's sing, sing, sing!

We'll explore together:

  • singing Swami's songs (classes will be mostly experiential and singing)

  • the story behind the music

  • how music influences consciousness

  • songs as "remedies" for emotional and spiritual healing

Singing Swamiji’s music and experiencing what happens to us as we do forms the heart of the class. Enjoy the science experiment, and see what you discover. "If you want to know me, listen to my music," said Swami once, in an interview with a journalist. The more we explore this idea, the more we find singing a window to expanded awareness and understanding far beyond what most of us could imagine.

Guided by Karen, Tandava, Saiganesh
