Faith is the attractive power of our underlying state of consciousness." - Swami Kriyananda
Developing true faith, as opposed to its more common cousin, belief, is one of the keys to a happy life. Join Asha Nayaswami in this two part series exploring and developing the skills, habits, and awareness which leads us to the experience of knowing God's presence in our lives.
Faith has the power to move mountains, but many of us lack the necessary energy to draw so powerfully on divine grace. We must apply the God-given blessing of self-effort and willpower, not blindly, but with deep concentration and cooperation with divine law. Christ said we must, "Pray believing," for our faith to have real effects.
Yet, our will can easily be misguided and even thwart the divine from providing elegant solutions to our needs because of our own narrow-mindedness. What is the art, then, of self-effort? Self-effort must be dynamic, alive, fully imbued with every part of our will and feeling, yet also free and open to receiving guidance and input from the divine. How can this dichotomy exist?
Self-surrender is the balancing half of the equation. Just as a musician must apply pressure to a string to bring forth the proper sound, too much pressure impedes the natural vibrations of the instrument, and can even cause it damage.
So also must we learn to balance our self-effort with self-surrender. We must learn to listen to God, to be truly receptive, to "Make the heart a wilderness," as Christ said, that God might enter and take charge of your life.
Learn this important balance and how to walk the razor's edge of dynamic faith with Asha in this series. Separated by months between part 1 and part 2, this series will give participants the opportunity to practice and live by the principles expressed, and return for a deeper and more nuanced understanding.
