Walking Into the Heart of the Gita

  • Ananda Temple 2171 El Camino Real Palo Alto, CA, 94306 United States (map)

3-week series • Cost: $45

Yogananda said he especially loved India’s great scripture, The Bhagavad Gita, for the comfort it gave the devotee.

"The Gita," as it is known, is an allegorical story where God, in the form of the guru, (Bhagavad Krishna in this ancient tale), imparts the wisdom teachings of Yoga to His beloved disciple, Arjuna. Comfort is found, indeed, in the immortal promise of God’s loving guidance, endless patience, and soul stirring truths revealed in The Gita.

The wisdom, power, and beauty of The Gita continues to inspire classes, commentaries and realizations anew. This series offers a slightly different focus — guided experiences where each participant spends precious moments in a walking meditation — whilst attuning to the meaning and inspiration of a single selected “Sloka" (a few lines of condensed teaching) at a time. There are times to share with the group between walking meditation sessions.

Each class begins with a brief introduction to serve newcomers as an overview and old-time Gita lovers as a refresher. Past participants have commented on how surprised they were to find that taking this time to slowly savor even familiar lines of the Gita awakened deepening awareness and great soul joy.
