The breath is the most natural and accessible tool that we have for calming our minds, deepening our meditations, and working with subtle energies in the body. In this 4-week workshop we will learn hands-on techniques for using the breath to help us overcome negative emotions and develop deeper states of awareness. Grounded in experiential learning, this workshop offers both the art and science of pranayama.
Class 1, May 7th: The Natural Breath
Find out what creates tension in the body and makes our breath shallow or tight. Understand the physiology of breath and practice guided stretches to achieve relaxed diaphragmatic breathing
Class 2, May 14th: Overcoming stress and anxiety
Breath reflects many conscious and unconscious behavior patterns including negative emotional responses. Learn controlled breathing exercises to overcome negative emotions and restore peace and balance.
Class 3, May 21st: Deepening your meditation
Understand the neurophysiological and metaphysical link that connects the breath with our mind and state of consciousness. Through this subtle awareness, discover the keys to deepening your meditation practice.
Class 4, May 28th: Working with subtle energy
Mudras are gestures that help us tune in and facilitate the energy flow, and Bandhas or "locks" teach us to engage and control certain muscles to direct energy. Learn and practice some of these techniques that can be a great aid to your yoga and meditation practice.
If you miss a class or register late, you can receive a video recording of the session(s).
